A GINGERBREAD ROMANCE BY LACEY BAKER
As an architect, she designs beautiful buildings… But will her heart ever find a place to call home?
Taylor’s architectural firm enters her in a contest to build life-sized gingerbread houses. After the contest, she’s likely to get a promotion to a position in another city. But it’s a team competition, and Taylor’s temperamental partner soon backs out. Taylor needs a replacement―fast.
When she meets Adam, a baker and single dad, she convinces him to be her partner in the contest. After all, winning would give his bakery much-needed exposure.
For years, Taylor has avoided thinking of anywhere as “home.” When she was a kid, her family was always on the move. But the time she spends with Adam and his daughter Brooke, decorating for Christmas and enjoying Philadelphia’s holiday traditions, has her questioning everything. Could she have found a place to call her own?

A Book Bar Review ☕☕☕☕
As a fan of the Hallmark movie channel, I was pleasantly surprised that “A Gingerbread Romance” made the lineup. The book is based on the original Hallmark movie. After having the opportunity to experience both the book and movie, I have to say the book played heavier on my emotions.
I like that this one didn’t follow the traditional career paths of the hero and heroine and it didn’t take away from their character. Taylor Scott, in high demand as an architect is more focused on being successful and chasing the next promotion that would take her to Paris. She is no stranger to traveling, since she has been doing it all her life. Not much of her childhood and/or adulthood painted a picture of traditions, that included Christmas.
Her boss recommends she enter into a contest to design a sleek and innovative gingerbread house that would show off her skills and if won, would be a shoe in for the Paris gig. Not willing to back down from a challenge she accepts and jumps all in. The team was to consist of an architect and a baker…here is where things shift. When the original baker falls through, she is left at the mercy of the one person that if she could help wouldn’t lay eyes on again, Adam Dale.
When she finally catches up with Adam, she tries to persuade him to assist her in the contest. Adam, like Taylor is very good at what he does, but isn’t interested in joining any kind of partnership with her. It took the sparkle in his daughter’s eye at the mention of him having the opportunity to show off his skills as a baker to build the life size gingerbread house. Not wanting to disappoint his little girl, he begins to look at request from a different angle. Before long Dale see the possibility of how the exposure that will help him realize his own dream, to open his own bakery.
As I read the book, I was able to feel more of the emotions from these characters; Taylor longing for what she hoped for as a child and Adam just wishing he could get back the family unit that was so tragically taken away.
I enjoyed this couple’s journey to finding love, purpose and the fulfillment of their dreams. You can always count of Hallmark to put you in the spirit of Christmas…anytime of the year!
