A BOOKS & BOOZE REVIEW: IT'S NOT ME IT'S YOU/CT PINOT NOIR

Updated: Aug 23, 2021

Great Job Elle Wright and Cooper & Thief, both the Read and Sip was an enjoyable experience. I recommend you try them both together or separately, you won't be disappointed. As an extra treat, this would pair nicely with a cigar, if you partake. Our main characters set the scene for the total experience.

IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU

Young In Love: Book 1

Publisher: ‎ Elle Writes Books LLC

Publication Date: May 20, 2021

Genre: Black/African American Romance

I fake laugh every time I think about how ironic it is to be a commitment-phobe relationship therapist who is also the daughter of two world-renowned marriage and family counselors. Seriously, it’s comical!

Want to know how I messed up my life? Getting arrested for stealing a priceless artifact for a tearful client.

Want to know what my biggest problem is? Spending my life teaching women how to break relationships when all I want to do is make a relationship—with him.

Want to know what that makes me? The Break-Up Expert who is questioning everything I thought I knew.

IT'S NOT ME, IT'S YOU is the first book in the Young In Love Series, featuring the very large, very fun Young Family. If you love romance with layered characters and laugh out loud moments, snag your copy. This novel contains sex, profanity, and sensitive subjects that some may find triggering.

MY THOUGHTS...

Time to flip the script; when most relationships have run their course, it's easily played safe when one party uses the quote "It's Not You, It's Me" when really what they are thinking is "It's Not Me, It's You."

In their own right, the Young family is an intriguing unit. Its dynamic is one of my favorite types of stories to read. While this is not the first introduction to the Young family, it is the first installment of the Young in Love Series as it invites us to focus on the family somewhat exclusively.

Can a Breakup Expert with commitment issues find true Love?

Blake Young is many things to many people, and she does it all while being unapologetically her. She is a twin with the potential to be a live wire, a successful black female - The Breakup Expert, a best-selling author, and considered the family protector.

When a slip in judgment almost lands Blake on the wrong side of the law and everything she has accomplished going down the drain, her fate takes a surprising turn...for better or worst? You will have to be the judge.

Lennox Cole is a professor and dedicated to enriching young adult minds. He lives what most would call a conservative lifestyle and is the apple of his sisters' eye. Yet, he finds himself a victim of harassment more times than he can count. When he arrives at his house and sees police lights in front, his frustration nears its boiling point, but this latest assailant is not at all what he expects. Will this be a welcomed intrusion?

Of course, this unexpected meet and greet set the tone of their adventure and what an adventure it was. There were many things to love about this book. It is a well-written story with entertaining characters. Crafting two unlikely characters and making their journey realistic. Sensitive subjects are present in this book, but I think the author tastefully dealt with them. A bonus was the way she seamlessly weaved in other characters and scenes from her other books.

I recommend this for your reading pleasure. It will be worth the time.

MY THOUGHTS

Cooper & Thief Pinot Noir (Aged in Brandy Barrels) offers the best of two worlds. This wine is rich and juicy in jammy fruit flavors. It has noticeable woodsy oak, vanilla, and caramel. These are all present with medium tannins, medium-bodied, spicy, and smooth brandy finish on the palate.

This varietal composition, the inclusion of the brandy, and the 16% alcohol adds some complexity and offer a dramatic experience, making the book and wine a perfect pair.

As an extra treat, this would pair nicely with a cigar, if you partake.
